It is such a big day for my kids today, and I am trying to make it as special as possible. Today is “meet your teacher” day at school. We stop by today for a first glimpse into the future of their year ahead. They see what their classroom looks like, get to size up the person with authority who they will interact with every day and most importantly, they learn which friends are in their classroom.
My son is lucky. His multi-age classroom combines 1st & 2nd graders, so this is the second year he will be in it. He adores his teacher and already knows one of his best buddies will be in there with him. We know for certain that he will have an amazing year, because last year was A+ tops.
My daughter, on the other hand, is completely in the dark. All we have on this teacher is her name. She is so excited to get into that room today!
To mark the moment, I will take my kids out to lunch today. Just us. Just one last quiet moment together until we switch gears and the school year starts 1st thing tomorrow morning. As soon as we come back from the open house today, we go into school mode….lunches packed in their new lunch boxes, baths, setting out clothes, new backpack labels cut off and then an early bed time. They must be fresh and ready to go tomorrow morning right at the 8am bell.
So…here we go. Goodbye summer. We’re off to new things.
